Individual & Family Hygiene Kits

Love Waterfords partner organization, Love Stanislaus County Kids Program, is dedicated to making sure children throughout Stanislaus County feel loved. Their main focus is on supporting children in foster care, as well as educating the public on how they can best support these youth and their resource parents.

One of the ways they fulfill their mission is through their annual county-wide comfort kit drive. Hundreds of children in our area enter foster care every year with nothing or with just a few items in a garbage bag. Comfort kits are bags that are given to children on the night they are pulled from their homes, and they filled with items to meet both physical and emotional needs during this life-changing transition.

Love Waterford is partnering with the Love Stanislaus County Kids Program to do our part in helping meet needs for foster kids, during our satellite event of the greater county-wide comfort kit drive. Each year, our Love Our Kids team commits to packing 50 Comfort Kits for elementary aged children.

A BACKPACK FULL OF LOVE

What goes into a Comfort Kit?

Comfort  Kits are filled with items to meet both physical and emotional needs. You can purchase any of these items from our Amazon Wish-list or in stores, or donate towards the cost of a kit. In addition, you can donate small toys, books, hats and scarves, and other "extras."

Stuffed Animals

Something soft to cuddle when they're scared.

Water Bottle

This reusable bottle means they're not constantly asking strangers to take care of one of their basic needs.

Flashlight/Nightlight

A light in the dark brings comfort when staying the night in a strange place, separated from their family, for possibly the first time in their lives.

Coloring Book/Pencils

A child entering the foster system may sit in an office for hours while a temporary placement is located. Having a coloring book helps them pass the time.

Blanket

A blanket brings comfort and warmth when they're in a strange place.

Hygiene Products

Giving children basic hygiene products means they have all the essential items and don't have to be reliant on a stranger when they're already uncertain of their welcome.

A BAG BUILT TO MEET NEEDS

What goes into a Hygiene Kit?

Personal hygiene kits are given to WUSD to distribute to children in need. We also pack family hygiene boxes that contain multiple full sized items to meet the needs of an entire family that is experiencing homelessness or financial insecurity.

Shower Products

A way to clean up at home, when home is lacking the products needed.

Hand/Body Wipes

Not every child has access to a shower at home every day. That's why we include products to clean up on the go.

Tooth Care

Poor oral health an impact attendance and academic performance. We include a toothbrush and full sized toothpaste in every kit.

Chapstick

This small item makes a big difference in a child's life after they've been battling chapped and bleeding lips.

Deodorant

Students are normally referred to the nurse or counselor due to body odor, so a full sized deodorant is a MUST in our hygiene kits.

Feminine Hygiene Products

Providing basic hygiene products means students have everything needed, and don't have to fear the flow every month.
